Good Practices of the Student Services Division, College of Science and Technology

The Student Services Division (SSD) has implemented several effective practices to enhance student welfare, promote discipline, and improve the overall campus experience. These good practices ensure the wellbeing, safety, and holistic development of students throughout their academic journey.

1. Student Welfare Fund

The division manages a Student Welfare Scheme aimed at supporting students during emergencies. The fund is maintained through student contributions and ensures timely assistance whenever required.

2. Sports for Physical and Mental Health

To promote health, teamwork, and recreational engagement, sports tournaments are organized every semester. Students and staff actively participate in games such as football, basketball, volleyball, badminton, and others, fostering a vibrant sports culture.

3. Mandatory Grooming Policy

To maintain professionalism and personal discipline, students must adhere to grooming standards during registration and throughout the semester:

  • Boys: Required to keep a neat, decent haircut (long hair not permitted).
  • Girls: Hair colour and styling must remain appropriate and professional.
4. Club Activities Policy

CST encourages student engagement through active club participation.

  • Every club must conduct at least one activity per month.
  • Activities may include competitions, workshops, social campaigns, cultural events, and community service projects.
  • Clubs are advised to plan activities in advance to ensure strong participation and meaningful outcomes.
5. Wi-Fi Connectivity & Library Timings
  • 24/7 Wi-Fi access is available across classrooms, lecture halls, libraries, and hostels to support uninterrupted digital learning.
  • The college library remains open daily until 10:00 PM, and stays open until midnight during examination periods, ensuring students have adequate time to study and access resources.
6. Monitoring of Last-Repeat Students

Students in their final repeat semester receive close monitoring. One-to-one sessions with the Dean of Student Affairs (DSA) are conducted at the beginning of the semester to guide them in managing activities and prioritizing academics effectively.

7. Formation of Student Referees

CST develops student referees for various sports through training workshops conducted in collaboration with Bhutan Olympic bodies such as the BFF and BFoB. This enhances student leadership, responsibility, and sports professionalism.

8. Compulsory Drug Testing for Attendance-Shortage Students

Students with attendance shortages undergo mandatory one-to-one sessions with the DSA and are referred for counselling support. Beginning AS2025, such students are also required to take a compulsory drug test.

9. In-Campus Infirmary Services

CST’s infirmary, staffed by an experienced Health Assistant, provides essential medical check-ups and emergency care for both students and staff, ensuring immediate health support within the campus.

10. Student Grass-Cutting Group

A dedicated student group assists college gardeners during peak monsoon seasons by maintaining grass in hostel surroundings and sports arenas, contributing to campus cleanliness and community responsibility.

11. Waste Management Practice
  • Two designated waste disposal areas are maintained with proper segregation systems.
  • Waste points open twice weekly and are managed by the Rover Club, promoting environmental responsibility among students.
12. Washing Machine Service

A student-managed Washing Machine Service, operated by the Gym Maintenance Group, provides affordable and accessible laundry facilities for hostel residents.

13. Salon, Canteens, and Stationery Shop

The campus offers multiple essential facilities, including:

  • A well-established salon providing professional grooming services.
  • Three canteens offering meals and refreshments at affordable prices.
  • A stationery shop supplying academic essentials at prices lower than local market rates.
